At Hog Roast Newcastle upon Tyne, we’re always reminded just how lucky we are to do this job. One day it’s a laid-back birthday bash, the next it’s a big corporate do – and then there are the weddings. The ones filled with nerves, excitement and a whole lot of love. Being invited into those moments is something we never take for granted.
So when Klaudia and Yousef asked us to cater their big day, it was an easy yes.
After months of planning – and plenty of back-and-forth with our catering managers Chris and Kayleigh – everything came together earlier this month at the beautiful Backworth House. If you’re unfamiliar, it’s one of those venues that makes you stop for a second when you arrive. A proper hidden gem with sweeping views over the golf course, immaculate lawns, and just enough spring sunshine to make everything glow – even if the breeze had other ideas.
Once we’d taken it all in, it was time to get to work.
Hog Roast Newcastle upon Tyne set up outside in the perfect spot and got started on the main event: our signature hog roast. As the meat cooked, the
crackling crisped up beautifully while the stuffing soaked up all those rich, savoury juices. Alongside it we made sure there was something for everyone in the form of whole roasted salmon for 9 guests, halal chicken thighs for 24 people and grilled vegetable skewers with halloumi, flatbreads and tzatziki for the plant-based crowd.
By the time 4pm rolled around and food was served, the reaction said it all. Guests gathered quickly, plates in hand, taking their time to build the perfect combination. Fresh tomato and mozzarella salad, mixed salad, creamy gourmet coleslaw and a generous helping of fries sprinkled with salt and vinegar made their way onto each plate – along with gluten-free and wholemeal buns for good measure.
More importantly, the vibe was exactly what you’d hope for at any wedding – relaxed, happy, full of laughter. From the setting to the smiles (and the second helpings), it was a day we won’t forget in a hurry.
