Welcome to the Year of the Snake – a time of transformation, patience, and good fortune!
Chinese New Year is all about celebrating with loved ones, and this year, our client Emily decided to shake things up with a one-of-a-kind feast that blended Eastern tradition with Western flavours. She wanted a show-stopping meal, and who better to call than the experts at Hog Roast Hellaby?
Chris and Kayleigh, Hog Roast Hellaby’s catering dream team, were thrilled to take charge and deliver an unforgettable feast. Since suckling pig is a symbol of prosperity, good fortune, and family unity in Chinese culture, a crispy, slow-roasted hog was the perfect centrepiece. With its golden, crackling skin and juicy, melt-in-your-mouth meat, it was an instant hit among Emily’s guests!
Of course, we also ensured our veggie-loving guests were treated to something equally delicious! We prepared vibrant grilled vegetable and halloumi skewers, perfectly paired with sweet chilli sauce, warm flatbreads, and a refreshing tzatziki dip. To add a special Asian-inspired twist, we crafted an irresistible selection of canapés – think roasted duck wraps with crunchy bean sprouts and fragrant ginger, crispy spring rolls dunked in hoisin sauce, delicate smoked salmon bites, and juicy chicken satay skewers dripping in rich peanut sauce. Plus we had British classics like mini fish and chips and pan-seared fillet of beef with Yorkshire puddings. And because no feast is complete without the sides, we laid out a spread of fresh, colourful salads, gourmet coleslaw and crispy-skinned roasted potatoes, with a variety of sauces and seasonings so guests could build their perfect plate.
Emily pulled out all the stops when it came to decorations. Her home was transformed into a dazzling Lunar New Year wonderland, glowing with red and gold lanterns, intricate banners, and adorable snake-themed crafts made by her kids. With 20 excited guests gathered, the energy was electric! Laughter, clinking glasses, and joyful chatter filled the air as everyone dug into the feast and welcomed the new year in style.
At Hog Roast Hellaby, we were honoured to be part of this incredible celebration. Seeing the pure joy on everyone’s faces as they savoured every bite was the ultimate reward.
