Thirty years is a long time to be doing anything, let alone doing it well enough to actually reach a 30th anniversary. So when Shepley Spring Ltd decided it was time to mark the occasion, they wanted to do it properly. With 160 guests gathering at their Huddersfield site, there was certainly no shortage of people to celebrate with, and Hog Roast Shepley was brought in to make sure there was plenty of good food to go around.
This wasn’t our first time working with Shepley Spring, either. We’ve actually been catering their events for quite a while now and, honestly, they feel more like old friends than clients at this point. That made this booking particularly exciting for our catering managers, Chris and Kayleigh, who already knew exactly what sort of food would go down well with the team. For a 30th anniversary, there was really only one dish that felt right: our signature hog roast.
And because the team already knows and loves our hog roasts, there was no need to reinvent the wheel. Hog Roast Shepley arrived with plenty of time to spare, got everything set up and let the hog do its thing while the anticipation started building.
A proper hog roast takes a good few hours to cook, so by the time the imaginary dinner bell chimed, we made sure the pork was beautifully tender and the crackling was crisp enough to make the wait worthwhile. After guests had their chance to pose for a photo with the pig, Chris and Kayleigh got to work carving everything up, serving the pork with sage and onion stuffing and applesauce, while rolls and wraps were ready for anyone who fancied turning theirs into a rather impressive sandwich.
Hog Roast Shepley made sure there was plenty more on the table too, including tomato and mozzarella salad, mixed salad, coleslaw and roasted new potatoes. Marinated chicken thighs gave guests another meaty option, while our grilled vegetable and halloumi skewers and vegan pulled jackfruit meant the vegetarians and vegans had something substantial to tuck into too.
With everyone properly fed and the celebrations well underway, it was lovely to see Shepley Spring marking such a big milestone with the people who had helped them get there. As for Hog Roast Shepley, we feel incredibly lucky to have been a part of their journey and even more so to have been invited back for their 30th anniversary. Here’s to the next 30 years – although hopefully we won’t have to wait quite that long for the next booking.
